A musical

The Second World War was about to start and Hollywood panicked. Losing the European audience was too risky for the movie industry. New audiences had to be found – and what’s better than the brothers and sisters south of the border? A new era began with banana movies for banana republics. In the center of the banana movies stood Carmen Miranda, the queen of samba. Imported from Rio, she became a Hollywood star, the front-runner in the propaganda war. They called her the Brazilian Bombshell, the queen of the banana movies. De Lady in de Tutti Frutti Hat is her story.
