A lesson play
The basic story goes like that: On May 20, 1929, while driving his Steyr car to Saint Cyr in France, Bertolt Brecht was involved in a car accident. He was on a road near Fulda, Germany, where he was going to have lunch with Kurt Weill. Brecht escaped from the accident with nothing but bruised knees, for which he was taken back to Berlin for treatment. The story of Brecht’s accident is told and demonstrated by performers several times. Each take presents a different witness/account. Sometimes reality feels scripted.
