School project

They flit between the virtual and real worlds on the digital highway. Their desks resemble those of professional graphics offices, with computers, monitors, consoles, and smartphones, leaving no room for plain paper notebooks. They play soccer with colleagues from Japan and Brazil, and managers in companies tear their hair out over the technological superiority of their young apprentices. „Digital natives“ is what they’re called, boys and girls whose native language comes from the digital world.

„Digital Cowboys” focused on the lives of boys. What are boys thinking? What makes boys tick? What do boys and girls think about boys? Since the project involved the full school class, girls and boys, we asked these questions in a wider context since the state of boys in our current society affects all of us.

We started the project with video interviews relating to the topic. We then collected stories, dances, text, and dreams (bad and beautiful). From the collected material, we develop songs, actions, movements, and dances, with a strong emphasis on life in the space between childhood and adolescence.

The final presentation was a live performance/installation.

With students of 2 B class NMS Koppstraße and 3 E class of GRG Maroltingergasse, Vienna

In collaboration with Dschungel Wien/ April 11 – 15, 2013
