“I think that cars today are almost the exact equivalent of the great Gothic cathedrals: I mean the supreme creation of an era, conceived with passion by an unknown artist, and consumed in image if not in usage by a whole population which appropriates them as a purely magical object” That was Roland Barthes writing, in 1957, about the new Citroen. Things changed since 1957… What is the crowning glory of our civilization… What is the magical object of today? A symbol, as clear a statement as the pyramids, the Parthenon, the cathedrals? What is this symbol? What is its name? Its name is Junk. Junk is the rusty, lovely, brilliant symbol of the dying years of our time. Junk is our ultimate landscape… Welcome to our cars! They move nowhere, and the absence of speed renders them junk… They become living rooms, performance spaces, temporary stages, confession booths, intimate concert halls, sound chambers… A junkyard of performance art.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="40px"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_video link="https://vimeo.com/13029032" el_aspect="43"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]Contributing artists: Jan Machacek and Oliver Stotz, Didi Kern, Miki Malör, Baschak Kaptan, Michael Strohmann, Erich Goldmann, Liz Art Productions (Elisabeth Löffler and Cornelia Scheuer), Anna Mendelssohn, Martin Siewert, Nira Pereg, Wagner-Feigl-Forschung (Otmar Wagner and Florian Feigl), Irene Coticchio, Yosi Wanunu, Brigitte Wilfing and Jorge Sánchez-Chiong, Silvia Fässler, Otmar Wagner, Rashim (Gina Hell and Nina Haddad), Jörn Burmester, Clélia Colonna, loop.ph (Mathias Gmachl and Rachel Wingfield), Onno Ennoson, Idit Nathan a.o.

We came up with different futuristic scenarios one of them was: DUBAILBERG

In the year 2020, a large corporation acquired the bankrupt county of Vorarlberg/Austria… They kept the political apparatus in place, but came up with a plan to revitalize the area with a radical new design. The plan centered around a series of buildings that represented the local, culture and natural habitat with the aim of attracting tourism and new businesses into the county. The buildings were to be designed by star architects to give the area a futuristic new look. They hoped that by attracting new people and businesses they can create demand for new developments - public housings, new public transportation systems, hotels, airport, and leisure time facilities.

Or: Hamlet’s Father, My Father, My Son’s Father

Hamlet’s Headache is a discussion, a beginning of a piece, fragments waiting to be put together. We deal with only one short scene: Act 1, Scene 5.

The center of our dive into William Shakespeare’s Hamlet concerns the evocation of the desire to know what past performances of the play looked like. Our Hamlet is a theatrical palimpsest, a presentation whereby a selective history of different Hamlets sits on the stage with our recreation of that history, live on the same stage. Parts are erased and written over, visible as fragments. The past is recycled, repurposed, and re-imagined while in partial view. It is also, primarily, a ghost story, an interpretation where the ethereal specter of Hamlet’s history as a performed piece of theater rides shotgun with the paternal visitations of Hamlet’s dead father; Hamlet, haunted by the ghost of itself. It is also about the mechanism of theatre. How one actor breaks apart the role of another actor, discovering one’s acting technique through the use of simulation, of becoming a character that is precisely another actor’s interpretation of a character. We take Hamlet apart by calling the entire enterprise of interpreting Hamlet into question, by showing just how transmutable theatre is, how malleable a text (a play, a film, a performance) can be, and how tradition and authority are very much open to question. Which, not surprisingly, is what Hamlet himself is all about.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="40px"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]Performers: Anna Mendelssohn, Irene Coticchio, Yosi Wanunu, Jonas Ferdiand Kilga
